Amanda Brugel
Pointe Claire, a quiet community in The West Island of Montreal is what you might call a "sleepy" location. People unfamiliar with the term tend to think there is a separate island in the west of Montreal however, it's a part of the city that's west. West Island is home to all things from the Lachine city. Lachine west. Amanda Brugel was born there and her time was not long in the city. Brugel was raised on Courtice located just outside Oshawa in Ontario. Her first ambition was to be an expert dancer. However, a growth spurt caused her to outgrow her dance partners she was able to have. In an article that was published in the Toronto Star that she is 6'1" tall and wears heels. When I grew out of male companions at that point, I gave up. A lot of former dancers go on to act. In the case of Brugel it was because of the advice from her drama teacher at her high school which pushed her to the path she needed. Her teacher invited her to audition for a part in her school's production. She was the teacher who suggested that she pursue a part the school's annual show. The show led her to receive an Fine Arts Talent Scholarship at York University where she attended the Theatre Program and graduated with a Bachelor in Fine Arts degree in the year 2000. Over the past 20 years since Brugel has landed roles on more than 60 productions on small and big screens. She attracted the most attention when she landed the character of Rita on the award-winning series The Handmaid's Tale (pictured below). Brugel made an appearance on only a handful of moments in the very first season of the series The Handmaid's tale. The only Canadian member.
